Living so close to beautiful hiking trails I had the cool idea for my wonderful husband and me to sneak away for the night and enjoy a couple's camping getaway. I will say that I haven't camped in 25 years so I knew we should start out small and close to home. Lucky for us there are beautiful campsites right outside the city. We chose to camp near the Columbia River Gorge for their beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. We snuck away in the early afternoon to hike the Oneonta Gorge Trail. Even before the hike started you are greeted with a gorgeous waterfall and resting pool. After taking in all the beauty and snapping a few selfies, we were off up the mountain. There are a few paths to hike and we saved the best for last, Oneonta Gorge up to Horsetail Falls. We hiked up about a mile and a half and I must say the sights are breathtaking, truly amazing. From the side of the trail, you overlook the Columbia River and mountain scapes.

Once we reached Horsetail Falls another large wading pool with beautiful rock formations and a cave greeted us. From the waiting pool, the over flow moves down and into creek beds and into a slow moving river bed. Being the adventurers that we are, we moved down into the slow moving river beds and found a beautiful place to sit, relax and enjoy our time together. I have to say I felt like we were teenagers swimming in the pool, climbing down into the river beds and splashing each other on a hot summer day.
